Singer Daler Mehndi’s ‘patriotic’ song against the terror attacks has led him into legal trouble, it seems. A criminal complaint has been filed against the singer by Mumbai-based advocate Sushan Kunjaraman, alleging that Daler’s song Jaago India is “demotivating and in bad taste”.
“I have filed a criminal case against Daler as the lyrics of his song Jaago India sound demotivating and are in bad taste. The lyrics abuse the people of the country, which is completely objectionable and is not in the interest of the nation,” Kunjaraman said.
Daler says that the lyrics of the song say, “‘Jaago jaago jaago India, tum salon (years) sote raho, marne wale marte rahenge, tum salon rote raho, marne wale marte rahenge...’ followed by the famous Saare Jahan Se Accha by Iqbal. The song has been recorded but not aired yet. I just sang it on TV, and he must have seen it and done this to gain publicity. The song is not about the Mumbai terror attack, it’s about waking up the common man and asking him to maintain harmony. I am still looking for a music label to release it. I will donate all the money from the song to charity.”
